Famous Places I Saw

When I visited Berlin last year, I discovered how amazing this city is. It has both old and new things to see. I didn’t plan much before going, and I found something new and interesting everywhere.

I first went to Brandenburg Gate. Everyone visits there! When I saw it for the first time, I was very surprised. It looks different in real life than in pictures. There were many tourists there, and I had some funny moments while taking photos. Someone’s ice cream even fell on me! But it was worth seeing.

I also saw the Berlin Wall. I walked along the East Side Gallery part. This part of the wall has many paintings on it. My father used to tell me about the time when Berlin had a wall between east and west. Now I could touch this wall and see the art on it. There is a famous painting of two leaders kissing – seeing it in real life was special.

Museums and Culture

Berlin has many great museums. I spent one day at Museum Island, but it wasn’t enough time. I liked the Pergamon Museum the most. Inside, they have a big, beautiful gate from an ancient city called Babylon. It was amazing to see something so old! The tickets were a bit expensive, but students pay less.

On Sunday, I went to Mauerpark market. There were so many people there! Some people were singing karaoke outside. I didn’t sing because I’m not good at it. The market sells many old but special things like music records and clothes. I wanted to buy an old camera but didn’t buy it because it was too big for my bag. Now I wish I had bought it!

Food and Daily Life

Berlin has many different kinds of food. You can find Currywurst (a special sausage with sauce) everywhere – it’s Berlin’s famous street food. The first time I tried it, it was very spicy! They also have döner kebab in many places. Turkish people brought döner to Berlin many years ago. It tastes a little different from Turkish döner, but it’s still very good.

I enjoyed walking in Potsdamer Platz, where there are many modern buildings. This area was rebuilt after World War II, and now it has many tall buildings. One day when it was raining, I sat in the Sony Center. It has a big glass roof. I drank coffee and watched people walking by while the rain fell on the roof.

It was easy to travel around Berlin. I used the metro and bus to go everywhere. Sometimes I got off at the wrong station, but people helped me. One nice German man showed me his map and helped me find my way for 10 minutes!

I want to go to Berlin again because I couldn’t see everything. Maybe next time I’ll go in winter to see the Christmas markets – people say they are very beautiful. If you’re thinking about visiting Berlin, you should go! It’s a special city with interesting history, culture, and food.
